Behaviour Code for children and young people

Purpose

This code of behaviour was written in consultation with children and young people. It aims to make sure everyone who participates in our services knows what is expected of them and feels safe, respected and valued.

DS GK Coaching must make sure that everyone taking part in our services has seen, understood and agreed to follow the code of behaviour, and that they understood and agreed to follow the code of behaviour, and that they understand the consequences of inappropriate behaviour.

Basic Principals

The code of behaviour for children and young people is intended to:

  • Identify acceptable and unacceptable behaviour
  • Encourage co-operation, honesty, fairness and respect
  • Create and environment where your self-esteem, self-respect and self-confidence will grow
  • Encourage you to recognise and respect the rights of others
  • Encourage you to take responsibility for your own behaviour
  • Help resolve conflicts and make it clear what will happen if you decide not to follow the code.

Do’s and don’ts

You should:

  • Co-operate with others
  • Be friendly
  • Listen to others
  • Be helpful
  • Have good manners
  • Treat everyone with respect
  • Take responsibility for your own behaviour
  • Talk to any of the team about anything that worries or concerns you
  • Follow this code of behaviour and other rules (including the law)
  • Join in and have fun

You shouldn’t:

  • Be disrespectful to anyone else
  • Bully each other (online or offline)
  • Behave in a way that could be intimidating
  • Be abusive towards anyone.

What happens if I decide not to follow the code of behaviour?

This code of behaviour is part of a process for making sure everyone who participates in our services receives appropriate support.

Minor or first-time incident

If you behave inappropriately, our staff, volunteers or helpers will remind you about the code of behaviour and ask you to comply with it. They will allow you to change your behaviour.

This gives you the chance to reflect and to plan a positive response with support from staff and/or volunteers and helpers.

Follow the traffic light system

  • If you continue to behave inappropriately after a first reminder, or if your behaviour is more serious, you will be given a formal green light warning and may be asked to sit out of part of a session by a member of the coaching staff. David Scarth will record the incident and inform your parents or carers. They will also talk with you about what happened and agree on what support you need to improve your behaviour in the future.
  • If you continue to behave inappropriately after the green light warning, you will be given a formal amber light warning by David Scarth. We may also decide that a sanction is appropriate such as restricting you from our training for a while. Again, David Scarth will record the incident and inform your parents or carers. They will also talk with you about what happened and agree on what support you need to improve your behaviour in the future.
  • If the support we have put in place isn’t helping you to change your behaviour, David Scarth may need to give you a formal red light warning. They will record the incident and inform your parents or carers.

At this point, we may need to talk with you and your parents about other services that might be more able to give you the support you need, this may also include us with-drawing your space from the facility.

Term-to-Term Training

We train during the school terms only so that participants will miss limited sessions for holidays etc. If a participant misses a session, no refund will be given as all pitches are booked on a Term-by-Term basis. If you or your child is injured and unable to train, please advise us as early as possible and try to indicate how long they are to remain away from training.

Returning for a new block of training

All spaces are reserved & held over in between blocks. If it is your intention not to return for the following block please advise us so that we can reallocate the space to someone who is possibly on our waiting list. If your space remains unpaid and you do not arrive for training on the 1st week of the new block, we will send you an email requesting that you confirm if you still require this space. If you do not respond within 48 hours we reserve the right to reallocate your space to someone else.

Cancellation of Space

If you no longer require your space at DS GK Coaching we require that you give us at least 7 days notice. If we can fill that space from the current waiting list you may receive a refund of the remaining sessions from that block. Please be aware that we are required to book all our pitches on a Term-by-Term basis and are financially committed to these dates & times.

All decisions of this nature are entirely at the discretion of the Management team.
